How to Install Wood and Ceramic Deck Tiles
Installation of our interlocking wood or ceramic tiles is both quick and easy. Only minimal preparation is necessary – no adhesives, no special tools and no extra parts are required.
The basic requirement is a solid, level and well drained surface, either indoors or outdoors. Most paved or concrete areas including balconies, patios, verandas, entrances, around pools and other (well drained) wet areas are ideal for laying the tiles – even high traffic commercial areas.
Measure the area to be covered and purchase tiles (each standard tile covers 1 sq.ft.).
Start laying the tiles from one corner of the area to be covered.Place the first tile in position and then lock the adjacent tile in place by pushing it down to engage the special connecting tabs on the sides of each tile. Continue adding tiles in this manner until the required area is covered and all the tiles are securely locked in place to each adjacent tile.
Different patterns or attractive borders can be made by combining different tile designs and combining wood with ceramic tiles.
Transition strips which interlock with the tiles can also be installed along the outer edge of row to provide a smooth transition from tile level to the base surface.
Cutting around pipes, posts or corners
With the wood tiles, simply cut out the required shape from the tile using a jigsaw or handsaw and lock the tile into place. Any screws in cut out sections should be replaced at appropriate points in the remaining part of the tile to ensure that all slats are securely fastened to the base.
With the ceramic tiles, a wetsaw or other appropriate tile cutting tool may be required to cut the required shape in the tile. Take care when cutting tiles – appropriate safety protection wear should be used at all times.
Alternatively, matching spacer pieces which interlock with the tiles are available which can be cut to shape with a knife. Plastic spacer pieces can also be installed between the outermost row of tiles and the edge of the work area to fill any gap and cut to the required size with a knife.
